THE CONNOR PERKINS YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP GRANT
Boulder Rugby lost an outstanding member in 2016, way too soon. Connor Perkins was an inspiration to his teammates and coaches on and off the pitch. He started his rugby career in the Boulder Rugby Youth Program, where he was also a junior referee.
He moved on to starting at prop all 4 years on our High School team. Among his countless accomplishments his greatest contributions were giving back to the sport he loved. He coached youth teams, was a Level 1 Rocky Mountain Rugby Referee, and was always there for a club-mate in need.
In his honor Boulder Rugby has created The Connor Perkins Youth Scholarship Grant in order to grow the sport he loved so dearly. Also in his name, each year the Connor Perkins Youth Service Award will be given to a young player that goes above and beyond in service to the sport of rugby and Boulder Rugby Club.
THE CONNER PERKINS YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP 2017
Winner 2017 - John Goodhew
THE CONNOR PERKINS YOUTH SCHOLARSHIP 2018
Winner 2018 - Matt McCarthy
In addition to being captain of the high school team, Matt has also taken referee training and helps out with the youth teams. He was selected for the Colorado All State side, where the coach recognized what a great leader he was and selected him to serve as Team Captain for the recent tour to Atlanta to play in the regional championship matches.
Matt is a superb ambassador for the game in general and for the Boulder Rugby Club in particular. Special mention to his coaches Pat, Greg, Randal, who have contributed to the character of this fine athlete and representative of our club.
Way to go, Matt!
